Alston Moor Community Energy are supporting the local primary and secondary school to raise funds to install solar panels on the school. They've already raised around £16K from grants from the Esme Fairburn Foundation & the Postcode Local Trust and are now seeking funds from the community to support this fur-ther. The smallest viable project will cost £22K and panels for the maximum roof capacity would cost £35K. Depending on the amount raised, the project is estimated to save the school up to £1,750 a year on energy, £42K over 20 years, plus saving up to 166 tonnes of carbon emissions, and teaching the 200 pupils about climate change and ways to tackle it. Kit England will speak about this project at the end of the 6pm Vigil Mass at St Wulstan’s this weekend, with a retiring collection for this cause after that Mass. Kit will be available then to respond to any questions.
