Following on from the recent and well attended meeting in the Haydock Centre the group formed at that meeting has now been registered as a Support Network with Cumbria CVS with the following broad aims:
- Being better informed and speaking well of refugees
- Welcoming Syrian families to Cumbria
- Exploring City of Sanctuary and other means to co-ordinate our solidarity with refugees and with others around the country and world.
On a practical level, volunteers are needed to help with the crèche which Barnardos are organising for the intensive Language classes ( ESOL) for the Syrian families in Penrith. These are on a Monday & Tuesday afternoons, as far as we are aware, in Penrith Children’s Centre. We are just awaiting a start date. Volunteers will be needed for the crèche while the parents at language class. If you are interested, please contact Jacquie Baccar, email: Jacquie.firstname.lastname@example.org or tel. Office 01228 593810 / 596773 or mobile 07768 504966. If you do volunteer please let our local coordinator, Sarah, know, email@example.com or 01768 870817.
